When you paint the inside of your home it is usually for a few different reasons. One can be that you are tired of the old dingy color that was on the walls before so you want to change the color all together. Another can be if you have a color you love but there is damage to the walls and chips, scrapes and other messes on the walls that would be best covered. Everyone wants a neat and clean finish in the home to create an enjoyable space. Painting a home is a wonderful way to get a fresh start but one aspect that you might overlook is the lingering odor of paint when the job is done. The smell of the paint can be anywhere from an annoyance to making a person sick if it is too overwhelming. You want to be able to control the odor and do what you can to reduce it when the job is complete. L.W. Winslow Painting, Inc offers tips to keep the smell of paint from lingering.
Choose Low VOC Indoor Paint
When you are having your home painted you want to of course look at the color that you want. You also have to be sure that you know what type of finish that you want whether it is a gloss or a matte finish. Lastly you want to make sure that you are aware of the type of paint that is being used in the house. There are some paints that are manufactured and will have a mix that has chemicals that do not give off any other odor. There are some that have a stronger odor when they are used in the house to paint it.
Charcoal for Paint Smell
If you are concerned about having fumes in the house from painting you want to have some plans on how to reduce it. One way that you can do that is to use a material that has absorbent qualities. You can use charcoal which is one of best ways to get the fumes out of the air. Most likely you can find charcoal pieces at a health food store. You want to take the pieces and place them in bowls and lay them around the space. This will help to pick up the smells and you can then throw the charcoal out after a day or two.
Use Baking Soda to Remove Paint Smell
Charcoal may be hard to get and you might have some apprehension about using it. If you want a second option you can use what many people use in their refrigerator and that is baking soda. You can use baking soda that is easy to come by at just about any store. You want to place the bowls of baking soda around the rooms that are being painted. This will help to reduce how long the fumes will stay in the house.
Create Ventilation to Get Rid of Paint Fumes
If you have your home painted at a time of year that the weather outside is nice you can use ventilation to help. You want to use fans in the space as well as open the doors and the windows. The amount of fresh air that is able to come in will replace the air that is full of the paint fumes.
