Tips for Shopping for Furniture to Refinish
If you are shopping for pieces of furniture to buy secondhand and refinish we have some tips for you. Many times you will find pieces that have been painted before. This can be a warning sign for you. That paint job can be hiding burns, missing veneer, water stains, and more. You are better off buying something that has old dirty varnish on it instead. When you buy a piece that has not been painted before you are able to clearly see what you working with. When you find a piece of furniture that you think may work look at the backside of the piece. If the furniture has drawers you will also want to look inside the drawers. Older pieces will have solid wood backing on it. Newer pieces will have plywood backing on it. Particleboard is also used in newer pieces. Furniture that has solid wood backing on it is going to be more durable than plywood or particleboard backing. Another thing that you can look for if you are buying secondhand furniture is the original hardware. The hardware can help you determine the possible age of the furniture. Knowing the age range of the furniture can help you know if it is worth purchasing as well.
