Having a freshly new interior painting service in your home can be a subtle change or even an extreme one. Many people turn to interior painting options when they crave some different scenery. Investing in such a project costs time, money; and if you take on the project yourself, labor. So after such an accomplishment you want the walls to look immaculate, but your children only see a new canvas and their crayons, markers, and paints have now marred your beautifully painted walls. Thankfully, we at L.W. Winslow, Painting Inc. have the solutions and would like to offer some tips on how you can get these common blemishes removed without ruining your paint.
How to Get Marker Off Painted Walls & Doors
Method #1- Rubbing Alcohol, Hand Sanitizer, Hairspray, or Nail Polish Remover: Before treating the walls, improve ventilation by opening a windows, flipping on ceiling fans, and open up the doors. Be sure to wear protective gear such rubber gloves to prevent marker ink residue from staining your hands temporarily. Using a cotton ball, or clean cloth sponge on you preferred remedy, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, hairspray, or nail polish remover, and lightly saturate your cloth or cotton ball and blot the stain away. If the marker is resisting removal, use gentle pressure and circular motions to loosen up the marker. With a mild soapy water mixture, wipe any lingering solvents away. Use a clean, dry cloth and blot the wall dry.
Method #2- WD40: Lightly apply WD40 directly to the marker stains and use a clean damp cloth, use circular motions to rub the stains away. With a mild soapy water mixture, wash the WD40 residue off the walls and blot dry.
Removing Finger Paint
Most children’s finger paint is washable for such an occasion and will come off with gentle force. With a damp cloth, wash the finger paint off with circular motions. If after a few attempts of plain water the stain remains visible, apply a dab of mild abrasive cleaner and carefully work the stain in a circular motion. In the event the stain persists, use a cotton ball and apply rubbing alcohol to the stain and gently rub the stain clean with circular motions. With a clean, damp cloth, wipe away any remaining residue and blot dry.
How to Get Crayon Off Flat Paint on Walls
Method #1 – Dryer: With a plugged in hair blow dryer on a low setting, aim the dryer onto the crayoned areas for 15-30 seconds or until the crayon has melted enough to wipe clean. A damp cloth can take care of the melted residue.
Method #2 – Baking Soda: Apply a small amount of baking soda to a damp rag, and gently scrub the marks clean with minimal force.
Method #3 – WD40: Spray WD40 lightly to the crayon areas and with a damp cloth wipe the area clean.
Side Notes
Before applying any cleaning remedy to that stained areas, perform a patch in an inconspicuous area to ensure it will not compromise the paint. If necessary, use some of the left over paint to any areas that have lightened or stain remains slightly visible.
