As you put together all of your ideas for the next face lift you plan for your home, the walls and the paint color on them are a big part of it. You need to decide that before almost any other element of the room design. When you are choosing which way to go with a color and design in a room, should you consider putting wallpaper on the walls? Or is paint a better option for your walls? L.W. Winslow Painting, Inc. would like to talk about the pros and cons of both paint and wallpaper.
Pros of Painting
If you are considering new paint on your walls, you will be happy to know that, by in large, paint can be purchased at a fairly low price. Not only that, but you can choose from numerous variations in one color. There are so many options for you to choose from. Another benefit of choosing to paint your walls, is the ease in which you can change the color if you decide to go in a different direction. With the low expense of painting, mixed with the many color choices, changing the colors on your walls every few years isn’t a big deal.
Cons of Painting
When comparing paint to wallpaper, you don’t have as many design options. Wallpaper comes in many textures and designs, where typically paint comes in gloss, or matte. When applying paint to the walls of your home, it can be a very messy project. You need to make sure your floors, and furniture are covered and protected from the project. Paint doesn’t last as long as wallpaper either. You will have to replace it before you find yourself needing to replace wallpaper.
Advantages of Wallpaper
The biggest benefit to using wallpaper in your home, is longevity. When you wallpaper a room, you can plan on it lasting past 15 years if it was hung correctly. It may be more expensive than paint upfront, but it will last at least twice as long. As far as design goes, there are more options with wallpaper as well. You can choose images, different textures, and chic designs when you choose wallpaper.
Disadvantages of Wallpaper
When you get tired of wallpaper, you can’t just paint over it. It isn’t as easy to change as walls that have been painted. Hanging wallpaper can be difficult as well. You will more than likely have a design or some image on the wallpaper. You can’t just hang up strips of wallpaper without making sure that the images match up so seams don’t show. It can be a tedious job depending on the wallpaper you choose.
