There are many different colors and hues when it comes to wood floors. With the many options in addition to the overwhelming choices you have to paint the walls, we at L.W. Winslow Painting, Inc would like to share some general ideas to help you coordinate the interior paint with your wood floor colors.
Paint Colors for Light Wood Floors
With the interior designs of homes, light hardwood floors are fairly popular. Because they can help make a room feel more open, brighten the space, and help you conceal the dirt, a lighter color floor is appealing to many. There are undertones in light floors, for instance when there are blue undertones, the light floor can be magnified with walls painted grey-blue or pastel blue. For a more inviting and relaxing environment with lighter floors that have a grey or ashy tint, use a grey paint with an undertone of another color to reach the goal. Usually, light wood floors have brown undertones. For a crisp clean look that brings warmth and comfort to the space, paint the walls a creamy or off-white or even a darker tan. Another option that creates clean lines is using the wood floor’s color for the trim but with a semi or high gloss finish to increase the durability.
Wall Colors for Dark Wood Floors
Hardwood floors that are dark are visually striking, but it will need to be done right by incorporating a nice balance of light into the space. Dark floors saturated in natural light will bring comfort. For a cozier effect, dark wood floors are ideal with homes featuring open floor plans. Balance can be created by using soft shades of blues and greens to lighten the space while offering a relaxing atmosphere. To compliment the dark wood floor, light beige’s, grays, and other pale and light shades with the subtle undertones found in the floor are perfect. Also, not only to bring contrast to the space but to allow more natural light to reflect in the area, paint the ceiling a bright white color.
Cherry Flooring Goes with What Color Walls?
Cherry wood floors are a common application with the elegance it offers and its versatility. The walls painted white with a slight undertone that matches the cherry will draw the eyes to the floor. If you want to ensure the wood floor is intensified, paint the walls a green color. When choosing the shade of green, avoid choosing one with yellow undertones. Cherry floors also look stunning with red painted walls as well as pastel colors. A grey with blue undertones is a popular option as it complements the cherry floor while creating a calming feel to the room.
Wall & Oak Floor Color Combinations
Solid oak hardwood floor, particularly with defined wood patterns is breathtaking. More than most other wood floor types, oak is known for its durability and longevity. The reddish hues in red oaks provides warmth, making most pastels ideal to compliment the deep reds, which also lightens the room. Once installed, white oak tends to look a lot lighter than what homeowners expect. White paint will make the subtle undertones in white oak stand out more. For those that prefer contrast, cinnamon, dark green, plum, navy, or charcoal can make the white oak stand out.
