Now that you have chosen the perfect color of paint for your home or business, there is one more step to consider before you purchase it. You will need to choose the right sheen. This can be tricky if you don’t know what applications certain sheens work best with. There are several sheens that you have to choose from when choosing the paint for your home. L.W. Winslow Painting, Inc is here to share some insight on what different types of sheens are best with certain areas in your home.
Best Paint Finish for Room
When you need to pick the sheen for your painting project, you need to consider the space you are painting. You should think about how much traffic goes in and out of that space. Some sheens make cleaning easier than others, so this is key in making the right choice. Following are the different types of paint sheens you have to choose from along with areas of your home that they may be best in.
- Glossy finishes: High gloss and semi-gloss are beautiful eye-catching sheens. They are easy to clean and should be used in spaces that are considered high traffic areas in your home. This would include areas like bathrooms and kitchens. Higher gloss paints are also good for smaller spaces since they have the ability to make a small space look larger as it reflects light from its surface.
- Satin, low-luster & eggshell: These paint sheens are the most commonly chosen in residential settings. They offer an in-between sheen in the middle of glossy finishes and flat finishes. This sheen is still cleanable, but not quite as easy to clean as the glossy finishes. However, it will give you a warm, comfortable feel in your home. Many people choose these finishes for hallways, bedrooms and family rooms.
- Flat sheen: Believe it or not, flat paint is better at hiding any blemishes found on the wall than other sheens have the ability to do. They are often used on ceilings and other areas that you are wanting to hide any blemishes or downplay in your home. The problem with flat paint is that it is incredibly difficult to clean it without removing paint from the surface. You should never choose flat paint for areas in your home that are receiving high amounts of traffic. There are some brands of paint that are better at producing a flat paint that can be cleaned easier than others can, but glossy sheens will be easier in the long run.
